What is Judo?

The Japanese martial art of judo is an Olympic sport and effective means of self defence, which includes spectacular throwing techniques, armlocks, strangles/chokes and immobilisations (ground holds).
Learning how to fall without injury (ukemi) is an important part of Judo.

Judo is an excellent way to get get fit, build self-confidence and develop self discipline!

Is there any striking in judo? Striking (known as ‘atemiwaza’ in Japanese) is not included in the sport of Judo, but it is retained in Judo’s traditional katas (pre-arranged forms of attack and defence) and its self defence programmes.
